This Week in Colorado Springs (11/28 - 12/1)

Happy Monday from Front Range Shuttle!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - November 28, 2016

Colorado Springs is looking to be a bit chilly this week! With lows in the teens through Thursday, you’ll definitely want to bundle up out there!
Starting off the week with Monday evening (11/28), join certified meditation instructor Joanna Bolek for an introduction to the mindfulness and stress reduction practice of meditation. Meditation and contemplation are great, proven ways to incorporate mindfulness into our lives, so why not give it a try for free at this class Exploring Mindfulness, Exploring Delight? The class will be held at the Penrose Library, and registration is requested but not required.
Tuesday morning (11/29) brings us to the Manitou Springs Heritage Center, where the featured exhibit of the week is “Manitou Rails”! Learn the story of how railways and inclines dominated the Manitou landscape and contributed to the town’s growth into the booming tourist attraction that it is today! Admission is free, and donations benefit the Heritage Center.
Tuesday evening is sure to warm your bones if you’re a fan of Heavy Metal, as The Black Sheep will be hosting “Drowning Pool”! Their music is described as an unapologetic celebration of life’s joy and pain, able to swiftly maneuver between various defiant declarations of resistance. The Black Sheep has also been voted “Best Live Music Venue” in Colorado Springs ever since they’ve been open, so this is sure to be a rocking night of music!
Wednesday (11/30) should be our sunniest day this week, so why not take the opportunity to check out Christmas in Magic Town? Michael Garman’s Magic Town is a 3,000 square-foot miniature city which he describes as “a gigantic playground for the mind, part carnival, part dollhouse, [and] part sculpture”. Whether travelling with your kids, or just letting out a bit of your own inner child, Magic Town is sure to be a treat!
Wednesday evening should provide nice, clear skies, so what better evening than this to join the Space Foundation Discovery Center for their Family Star Party? A perfect night for looking to the stars and discovering the wonders of our universe, at an event that is sure to inspire the astronomy enthusiast in any inquiring mind!
Thursday afternoon (12/1) brings us to Manitou Springs, where the CommonWheel Artists Co-Op will be running their annual Holiday Market event! Their art and fine craft items are made by local Colorado artists with both price and quality in mind. You’re sure to find unique gift ideas for even the hardest people to shop for on your list!
Thursday evening will be a very unique opportunity here in Colorado Springs, as Colorado Vertical Adventures will be starting up their Christmas Lights helicopter tours! Experience a Reindeer’s-eye view of the Colorado Springs Christmas lights in a modern, Rolls Royce Jet powered helicopter, with music on board to set the mood!
