This Week in Colorado Springs (12/5 - 12/10)

A Sunny Start to December

By Tony Fleming-Brum - December 5, 2017

Good morning Colorado Springs, and welcome once again to this week’s edition of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! We’re still not going to be seeing snow in the forecast, but temperatures sure are dropping out there! With lows below freezing every day this week, you’ll definitely want to bundle up if you’re planning anything early in the morning or later in the evening, but our afternoons are looking mostly sunny all the way through next week! I’m sure the winter weather is coming, but for now let’s enjoy the sun while we’ve got it!
Kicking off our week with Tuesday (12/5), we’ll be heading over to Bubba’s 33 for their End of Prohibition Party! In celebration of the anniversary of the end of prohibition, on Tuesday, December 5, Colorado Springs’ Bubba’s 33 will party like it’s 1933 with $3.33 Classic Cheeseburgers and Single Bacon Burgers and 33-cent boneless and bone-in wings. The event will feature giveaways every hour, at 33 minutes past the hour. Party Like it’s 1933 and Celebrate the End of Prohibition!
As for this Wednesday (12/6), we’ll be stopping by the Stargazers Theatre for the Pikes Peak Blues Community Quarterly Blues Jam! The Pikes Peak Blues Community sponsors open Jams four times during the year and we invite all interested musicians to participate. For each Jam, we round up some musicians to form a host band, and the other musicians who drop by are invited onstage to play along. We supply the drum kit, keyboard, and sound system, and musicians bring their own instruments – guitars, basses, horns, vocal chords, harps…and whatever else you like to play. All music lovers and dancers are welcome at the Jam, too! Come out to jam and socialize with some of the finest blues players in the Springs!
And rolling right along into Thursday (12/7), we’ll be making our way up to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for their first ever Electric Moonlight event! Come experience a winter wonderland at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s first annual Electric Moonlight! This adults-only evening event will include all-inclusive samplings of food, beer, wine & spirits; live local musicians; warming fire pits; a chance to visit Santa Claus and over 85 light sculptures to enjoy as you stroll through the Zoo. Tickets on sale now!
Kicking off our weekend on Friday (12/8), we’ll be heading over to the Pikes Peak Center for the Colorado Springs Chorale’s presentation of Deck the Hall! The Colorado Springs Chorale proudly announces its 31st annual Deck the Hall concert at Pikes Peak Center on Friday evening, December 8, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. The event features the Colorado Springs Chorale with a guest instrumental ensemble, and it will feature the Summit Ensemble and Pikes Peak Singers of the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale directed by Kimberley Schultz and Victoria Lipscomb respectively. Also, KCME and Jazz 93.5 FM radio personality Jana Lee Ross will read an excerpt from the beloved classic The Wind in the Willows, and large projections of illustrations by local artist/illustrator Michael Hague. You won’t want to miss this one!
And this Saturday (12/9), we’ll be stopping by the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center for their presentation of Annie! Leapin’ Lizards! The irrepressible comic strip heroine takes center stage this holiday season in one of the world’s best-loved musicals. Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie has become a worldwide phenomenon and is the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. This beloved show features some of the greatest musical theatre hits ever written, including It’s a Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow!
And bringing our week to a close on Sunday (12/10), we’ll be heading right back to the Pikes Peak Center for their presentation of Christmas Joy!
