This Week in Colorado Springs (11/28 - 12/3)

December is Here!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - November 28, 2017

Good morning Colorado Springs, and welcome once again to this week’s edition of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! Weather has been incredibly mild so far this winter, and doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon. This week we’re looking at mostly clear skies, with highs in the 50s and 60s all the way through to next week. With that in mind, let’s get on with our fun events this week!
Kicking off our week with Tuesday (11/28), we’ll be heading over to the Simpich Showcase for their presentation of Hensel and Gretel: All About Gingerbread Holiday Edition! The classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale is brought to life as never before in this enchanting holiday edition! Within a forest of animated trees and one highly conscientious sandman, there stands a cottage of enticing treats NOT to be touched. There lives a brave gingerbread boy who places himself at the center of a great woodland contest for the lives of two very hungry children. Whoever thought a Christmas cookie could be THIS good?
And rolling right along into Wednesday (11/29), we’ll be making our way up to WhirlyBall for their first Beat the Brewer event! WhirlyBall will provide free court access for all guests to battle the brewers and earn bragging rights, plus a chance to win great prizes from Bristol Brewing Company and WhirlyBall. In addition to $15 unlimited pizza, WhirlyBall will feature a special selection of beers from Bristol Brewing! For those who aren’t familiar with it,  WhirlyBall combines lacrosse, hockey, basketball, and bumper cars in a game of skill coupled with a touch of chance. It's the endorphin inducing answer to your typical outing!
As for this Thursday (11/30), we’ll be heading on over to the Sky Zone Trampoline Park for their weekly SkyRobics class! SkyRobics is low-impact, healthy fun that combines calisthenics, core exercises and strength-building aerobics. SkyRobics is one of the most dynamic, effective and active workouts you can get! Don’t worry, any level of athlete will feel rejuvenated after this workout. You’ll burn up to 1,000 calories an hour on their wall-to-wall trampolines! It’s a class very worth checking out!
And kicking off our weekend (and the month of December!) with Friday (12/1), we’ll be heading over to the Stargazers Theatre for the Knights of Columbus Christmas Fundraiser! The Knights of Columbus are hosting a Christmas benefit with proceeds going to charities and invite you to join them for music, entertainment, cocktails, a silent auction, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa! Admission is $10 and an unwrapped toy or children’s book which will be donated. The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
And this Saturday (12/2) we’ve got a very special holiday tradition to attend: The Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum’s Festival of Lights Family Fun Day! Join the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum for their annual FREE holiday celebration. Enjoy music, magic, face painting, balloon art, crafts and activities from CSPM staff and a variety of talented community organizations. Don’t miss this special tradition that’s brought magic to the Pikes Peak region for over 30 years! For details and a full schedule of activities, visit
And wrapping up our week with Sunday (12/3), we’ll be stopping by a staple of Old Colorado City: Thunder and Buttons! In 1888 a rowdy, Colorado City resident named Prairie Dog O’Byrne (so named because of the prairie dog he had running in a wheel on the back of his rig) purchased two bull elk and hitched them to his carriage. The elk were named ‘Thunder’ and ‘Buttons’. In 1978, local historian Dave Hughes told this story to a local entrepreneur who purchased the building. The entrepreneur decided to name his new ‘saloon and eatery’ after the two elk. This Sunday we’ll be swinging by for their Football Sunday special, with all day happy hour, prizes, games, and lots of fun!

And as always, don't forget about Front Range Shuttle! From cozy SUV's to 25 passenger buses, we have all your airport transportation needs covered!
