Good Morning Colorado Springs, and welcome once again to this week’s edition of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! We’ve got lots going on this week, starting the week off with the Solar Eclipse on Monday, and continuing on with our afternoon “monsoon” weather here all the way through next Monday! Temperatures will still be reaching the high 70s and low 80s, though, so there should be plenty to do around town!
Kicking the week off with Monday (8/21), hopefully everyone will be able to take a few minutes to enjoy the almost completely full Solar Eclipse that will be happening in the morning hours. In the afternoon and evening there won’t be a whole lot going on around town, but The Outlets at Castle Rock
is inviting residents of Colorado to a ‘Solar Savings’ party to view one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights. On Monday, August 21 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. the center will welcome visitors to view the highly anticipated solar eclipse in the Under Armour courtyard, and will provide complimentary CE Certified solar glasses for safe viewing and chances to win special prizes during the peak 'dark minutes' of the eclipse! A giveaway will take place during every minute of the eclipse's maximum point - meaning, in total, over $500 in grand prizes!
After a day of Solar Eclipse fun, this Tuesday (8/22) we’ll be heading over to the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center
for their showing of the artwork of Jeremy Manyik
! Jeremy Manyik was raised on the plains of Southeast Colorado in a rural community. He takes his inspiration from the people, ranches, and farmlands in his surroundings; these serve as the focus of his paintings. As a representational artist, Jeremy is primarily self-taught and has had no formal art education. Manyik participates in many juried national and regional shows where he has earned numerous accolades including several Awards of Excellence from the Oil Painters of America and fifth-place in the prestigious National Portrait Society’s International Portrait Competition. This will be a great chance to take in some beautiful artwork if you’re here visiting the city.
That brings us to Wednesday (8/23), when we’ll be heading up to Manitou Springs to Soda Springs Park for more of their summer concert series! This week’s concert will be featuring Jazz Express
, a Colorado Springs outstanding big band style Jazz band. Get to the park early for prime seating on Wednesday. Guests are more than welcome to bring your own lawn chairs as seating is limited. The concert is free and open to the public to attend. Sit back and relax this summer!
As for this Thursday (8/24), we’ll be heading over to The Gold Room
for their presentation of A Live One – A Phish Tribute
! A Live One is Texas’ premier Phish tribute, formed in 2011 by guitarist Josh Pearson, bassist Andy Harn, keyboardist Zack Morgan and drummer Alan Eckert. Being huge fans and heavily influenced by Phish, the band found it very exciting recreating their music. With 200 shows under their belts, the band has toured heavily throughout the country and performed at several festivals including Phases of the Moon, Euphoria, Art Outside & Highberry. Digging into the chemistry of Phish’s music, A Live One rises to the challenge, striving to create a similar experience, on a much smaller scale.
Heading into our weekend on Friday (8/25), we’ll be on our way to the Southwest Motors Events Center
for an amazing comedy show: Gabriel Iglesias’ Fluffymania: 20 Years of Comedy
! Beloved Mexican-American comedian Gabriel Iglesias is a man of many talents, and he employs them all in his uproarious stand-up act. In addition to being a gifted storyteller Iglesius is a master of funny voices and absurd sound effects, and his unexpected noises never fail to have audiences in stitches at his live shows. Whether he's poking fun at his obesity by calling himself "Fluffy" or telling hilarious anecdotes about his high school reunion, Iglesias is a lighthearted performer who always brings the laughs on his acclaimed tours. This is a show you definitely won’t want to miss!
This Saturday (8/26) will be a great chance to unwind if you’re here in town, as the Pikes Peak Center
will be hosting the Tour de Fat, featuring Wilderado
! New Belgium Brewing's "Fat Tire presents the Tour de Fat" is back for its 18th season and this year without question will be the biggest and boldest yet. The traveling philanthropic beer, music, and bike festival will kick off a 33-show season May 20th in Asheville, NC and wrap up Oct. 7th in Tempe, AZ. In addition to greatly expanding the festival's reach to accommodate more fans, this year's events will include world-class entertainment by the likes of The Roots, Third Eye Blind, The All-American Rejects, The Naked and Famous, Michael Franti & Spearhead, X-Ambassadors, and many more!
Bringing our week to a close with Sunday (8/27), we’ll be heading up to the Colorado Springs Event Center for the Colorado Springs Comic Con
! Join them for the second annual Colorado Springs Comic Con, now at the bigger and better Colorado Springs Event Center! Guests scheduled to appear include Chris Sarandon, Doug Walker, Elizabeth Ludlow, James Marsters, Kevin Grevioux, Amy Dumas, and more to come!
