The Month of August

What a crazy month of weather we’ve had here in Colorado this July! We’ve had everything from hail storms to tornado warnings, and flash floods with monsoon rains! Hopefully we’ll be seeing much calmer, more predictable weather this month. We are in Colorado, though, so keep in mind that our weather can change at the drop of a hat when planning your trip!

 

Wednesday (8/1) The Phantom Canyon Brewing Company will be hosting their annual birthday party for the state of Colorado! They’ll be serving a four-course dinner collaboration between Head Brewer Alan Stiles and Head Chef Mario Moser, which will include delicious pairings of small batch Phantom Canyon beer with a seasonal, Colorado-grown menu!

 

Thursday (8/2) The good folks over at Pub Dog Colorado will be hosting their weekly Bingo for a Cause event! Every Thursday is Bingo night. Come and play for your chance to win amazing prizes! Fur babies optional. All proceeds benefit The Bear Creek Dog Park.

 

Friday (8/3) The Rock Ledge Ranch will be hosting their Shakespeare at the Ranch: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)! A hysterical, madcap condensation of all 37 of Shakespeare's plays in under two hours, this audience favorite will delight Shakespeare novices and experts alike. Theatreworks' production is an irreverent, fast-paced rollercoaster of a play and a perfect night of fun!

 

Saturday (8/4) The Colorado Springs Pioneer’s Museum is hosting their MetroDemic Scavenger Hunter in Colorado Springs! Colorado Springs is being ravaged by a deadly epidemic that only you and your friends can stop! In this outdoor game, you’ll have 90-minutes to save as many souls as possible armed only with your wits and your smartphones. Head downtown to get some exercise, explore the city, stretch your brain, and save thousands of innocent souls from a deadly disease!!!

 

Sunday (8/5) Rocky Mountain Food Tours will be hosting their weekly Delicious Downtown Food Tour! Dine and dash in the heart of historic downtown Colorado Springs on their famous flagship tour. As you meander down Tejon Street, envision an old horse-drawn carriage, hear the chug of the railroad, and learn about the trade of gold and silver at the Mining Exchange!

 

Monday (8/6) The Common-Wheel Artists Co-Op will be presenting the gallery entitled "Photo, Fiber, Silver", which will present the works of three artists working in three different art forms. Brianna Rizzi, Diane DelDuca, and Suzi Popkess all show their work in Blue Spruce Gallery in Florence and are bringing their individual talents to Manitou Springs for this group show!

 

Tuesday (8/7) The Whistle Pig Brewery will be hosting their weekly Taco Tuesday! Delicious tacos and craft beer. What could be better on a hot summer day? Enjoy an assortment of 10+ craft beers. They are open from 3PM-9PM every Tuesday!

 

Wednesday (8/8) El Paso County Parks is collaborating with Pikes Peak Jazz and Swing Society to host seven Concerts in the Park this summer! This week’s concert will be featuring New Horizons All In Jazz! Bring your picnic, lawn chairs or blanket, and enjoy the summer nights with the family!

 

Thursday (8/9) Springs Beer Tours will be hosting a Manitou Craft Beer Tour! Take a relaxing walking beer/history tour through Manitou Springs! The tour offers samples of great Colorado Craft beers while you take in some of Manitou Springs’ storied history.  Springs Beer Tours has lined up three of Manitou’s best craft beer stops, and along the way you’ll see several key points of interest in the city. The walk is about 3/4 to 1 mile in length.

 

Friday (8/10) The Pikes Peak Center will be hosting Tim Allen! In a rare evening of lively, outlandish and sure to be outrageously funny stand-up comedy, funny man, TV personality and movie icon Tim Allen will be live on stage! This performance has been designated For Mature Audiences Only due to adult content, so leave the rugrats at home and come on out for an evening of laughs with Tim Allen!

 

Saturday (8/11) The Stargazers Theatre will be hosting the 6035’s 10 Year Anniversary Concert! 6035 has been rocking Colorado Springs for 10 years now, winning a lot of friends & some awards too.The band wants to thank everyone for hanging out all these years with a FREE, all-ages dance party! By popular demand, 6035 is bringing back its acoustic classic rock set, as well as playing your rock classic favorites for this special show. There will be special surprises for 6035 fans, so come join them in their celebration!

 

Sunday (8/12) The Cherokee Ranch in Sedalia, Colorado will be hosting their very own Princess Party! Give your child their very own fairytale at a real Castle! They will enjoy fancy snacks and beverages all while mingling with real princesses! They'll get to make their very own crown to go along with their best princess dress and take home a memory to last ever after! Reservations include fancy snacks with refreshing beverages, a take home craft, and a photo opportunity with our guest Princesses!

 

Monday (8/13) The annual Manitou Springs Summer Concert Series brings you The Little London Winds; an all-volunteer concert band, live Monday night in Soda Springs Park! Park your car in the free lot at 10 Old Man’s Trail and take the free shuttle. Bring your own lawn chair, seating is limited. The concert is free and open to the public.

 

Tuesday (8/14) The Cottonwood Center for the Arts will be showing the works of LeAnna Tuff! In her exhibit entitled “A Peek Behind the Curtain”, Tuff departs from her photo-realistic approach to depiction. Using mixed media, acrylic, oil, and pastel - she maintains the structure and finesse of her trademark style, and delves into the world of painterly and impressionistic rendition, creating a union of creative release and restraint in expression.

 

Wednesday (8/15) Painting with a Twist will be hosting their weekly We <3 Wine Wednesday! Find any class on their calendar on a Wednesday that you like and make sure you sign up! ALL bottles will be half price! That means their super popular Apothic Red- $9 a bottle! OR, their Peach Moscato will be only $7.50! So message your friend to coordinate and y'all can split a bottle and go home with a gorgeous painting!

 

Thursday (8/16) The Broadmoor Galleries will be presenting the works of Alexandr Onishenko! In his exhibit entitled “New Impressionism - From Dark to Light”, Onishenko attempts to turn traditional painting on its head by painting his canvas black before beginning his work. As he paints, the black of each canvas peeks through, bringing uniformity and adding a depth and intensity that is indicative of his signature style. Witness an Onishenko painting and you will find new details waiting to be discovered each time you view it!

 

Friday (8/17) The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center will be presenting Comedian, actor, television writer, author, and musician Paul Reiser to the stage! Paul Reiser has spent the last 30+ years acting in Oscar and Emmy award-winning movies and TV shows. He was voted one of Comedy Central’s “Top 100 Comedians of All Time.”

 

Saturday (8/18) The Antlers Hotel will be hosting the 3rd Annual Steers & Beers, The Whiskey and Beer Festival! There will be hundreds of brews and spirits to sample. Yes, we said spirits too. It's a Whiskey and Beer Brew Fest. Step into the RNDC Whiskey Trail Rooms to listen to some live music and enjoy some of the top whiskey out there served to you by whiskey professionals. And it just keeps getting better... There is a Mechanical Bull onsite just to see how cowboy you really are!

 

Sunday (8/19) Ace Entertainment will be presenting the 2nd Annual Old Colorado City Car Show! This show will display motorcycles, cars and trucks, foreign and domestic, all years,  makes, and models. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

 

Monday (8/20) Tyler Polumbus will be hosting the Orange & Blue 760 Summer Golf Tour: The Club at Pradera! The tournament will be a four-person scramble format, shotgun start at 1pm, with special hole prizes, contests and grand prize for the winning foursome!

 

Tuesday (8/21) The Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts will be hosting Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters! The Boxmasters were formed long ago when W.R. 'Bud' Thornton went in to a fast food chicken restaurant in Bellflower, California and got in an argument with the young man working the counter over a coleslaw incident. That young man was J.D. "J.D." Andrew. The incident turned out to be a misunderstanding and the two had a laugh about it and they became fast friends. They started hanging out together and eventually discovered that they had both come to California in search of the big time in the world of ELECTRIC HILLBILLY Music, and the band was formed!

 

Wednesday (8/22) The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center will be presenting the works of various artists in the gallery entitled “Year of the Dog”. This exhibit examines the profound human-animal bond, from a cultural obsession with our canine companions, as well as the opposing attitude of disposability and disregard for the very same creatures.

 

Thursday (8/23) The Hillside Garden and Event Center will be hosting a Benefit Concert and Fair to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Alliance! they will have local performers, musicians, actors and artists putting on an amazing variety show, including some of the staff there at the office! MSA clients will be speaking about their experiences, as well as a short presentation from their director, Nikki Pfieffer. There will be craft booths, food vendors, and a scavenger hunt through the gardens as well!

 

Friday (8/24) Pot4Parents will be hosting the Colorado Cannabis Festival! Their desire is to show Cannabis in a light not representative of the typical stoner. Instead, they aim to emphasize on Cannabis Families, Cannabis Education and Cannabis Awareness. Keep an eye on their website for exact location and tickets (to be updated soon!)

 

Saturday (8/25) The Chapel Hills Mall Event Center will be hosting Colorado Springs Comic Con! Get ready for the biggest and best pop culture convention in the Springs. This 3-day event will feature celebrities from all genres of TV, movies and cartoons, some of the best names in the comic art community, as well as some the greatest vendors in the area with those hard to find toys, comics, and collectibles!

 

Sunday (8/26) The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will be hosting their Art on the Hoof event at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center! Join AAZK Zoo Keepers at their 17th annual ART ON THE HOOF fundraiser featuring nature and animal inspired works of art. Work with an estimated value of $75 and up is featured in this event. All guests will receive admission and hors d’oeuvres and a drink ticket, and depending upon your ticket level may receive an *Art Drawing Ticket.* Drawings will occur throughout the evening. The drawings continue until all the art finds a new home. All attendees who purchase an art-level ticket get to take a work of art home with them!

 

Monday (8/27) The Rock Ledge Ranch will be hosting a full (unabridged) presentation of Shakespeare at the Rach: Macbeth! Something wicked this way comes… Shakespeare’s vivid tragedy Macbeth probes the depths of pure evil, blind ambition, and raw power. The play is dominated by its title character and his single-minded pursuit of the Scottish throne. Primitive forces of darkness, wind, fire, and the supernatural manifest as fog, thunder, lightning, and rain contained in Theatreworks' tent under the stars. What could be better than this?

 

Tuesday (8/28) The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center will be presenting the works of Ralph Allen! The gallery entitled “Envoutement” captures the vibrancy of Haitian music and dance, which are always present in Haitian cultural activities. Through vigorous brushstrokes and vivid colors, “Envoutement” communicates the energy of Haitian music.

 

Wednesday (8/29) The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association teams up with the Highlands Ranch Mansion to bring Lannie Garrett to town! The historic Highlands Ranch Mansion provides the perfect backdrop for a jazz performance as well as the proper atmosphere for a casual, comfortable event in the great hall. The performance will be indoors.

 

Thursday (8/30) The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will be hosting another of their signature Tails, Tunes & Tastes events! Come dance and dine the night away at our after-hours, adults-only event - Tails, Tunes & Tastes! Enjoy an evening under the stars with four stages of live music entertainment, as well as all-inclusive drinks and international cuisine by Taste, the Zoo's onsite caterer. Also enjoy several animal demonstrations, with many animal exhibits open 6 to 8 p.m.

 

Friday (8/31) The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center will be presenting PIE! PIE is a layman’s exploration of what happens when you don’t know what to do next, inspired by the Carl Sagan quote, “If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.” Santa Fe-based Theater Grottesco’s take on this is a deeply relevant and moving journey across the universe, down the Grand Canyon, and into a world of questions about societal pressures, identity, hopelessness, greed, and the toxic muddy trickle at the end of a once raging river.
