This Week in Colorado Springs (04/04 - 04/08)

April is Here!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - April 3, 2018

Good morning Colorado Springs, and welcome to the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! It’s looking like the moisture we missed all winter is finally getting to us! We’ve got rain in the forecast both Friday and Sunday of this week, but sunny skies and temperatures in the high 50s to mid 60s all the way through next week. With that in mind, let’s see what the Springs has to offer this week!

Kicking off our week with Tuesday (4/3), we’ll be heading over to Pub Dog Colorado for their Barks, Booze, & Bags Fundraiser! The fundraiser is to benefit the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. Support homeless animals with every sip as $1 from each draft beer or wine sold is donated to HSPPR. Enter the “Doggie Bag Giveaway” for your chance to win prizes and cool dog swag! Doggie bags are filled with mystery prizes worth hundreds of dollars. Winners announced at 8pm.

As for this Wednesday (4/4), we’ll be swinging by the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center where they’ll be showing the work of Chiho Aoshima: Takaamanohara! Drawing equally from traditional Japanese Shinto mythology and contemporary Anime films, this immersive, highly detailed video installation by Chiho Aoshima invites the viewer into another world.
The title "Takaamanohara," the plain of high heaven, refers to a place where Shinto deities reside. With a vivid imagination and a saturated color palette, this video retells a creation story about the time when the gods of heaven separated from the gods of the land.

Rolling right along into Thursday (4/5), we’ll be heading over to the Broadmoor World Arena, where they’ll be presenting comedy superstar Jeff Dunham! Jeff Dunham is bringing his cast of characters on the road, as America’s favorite ventriloquist tours North America on his 60-city Passively Aggressive tour through spring 2018. Tickets on sale now at jeffdunham.com.
Dunham recently released his latest stand-up special, Jeff Dunham: Relative Disaster, on Netflix in September 2017. The special, filmed in Dublin Ireland, features Dunham along with his ill-behaved and slightly demented posse of characters for a gleeful skewering of family and politics. Dunham and his famous cohorts Walter, Achmed the Dead Terrorist, Bubba J, and Peanut also consider what a new member to their already dysfunctional family could mean, putting the ‘relative’ in Relative Disaster.

And kicking off our weekend with Friday (4/6), we’ll be heading over to the Stargazers Theatre for their presentation of Zoso – The Ultimate Led Zepplin Experience! Zoso - The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience formed in 1995 to perform the most accurate and captivating Led Zeppelin live show since the real thing. For Zoso, it's much more than just being a tribute. It's about touching a golden era in music. Zoso embodies Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones in their spirit, tightly-wound talent and authenticity.
Each band member has been carefully selected to portray both the appearance and playing styles of their Led Zeppelin counterparts. In eighteen successful years of touring, they have perfected their art. As one of the longest tenured Zeppelin tributes, Zoso's 2400 live shows around the world, including slots at major festivals such as Bonnaroo and Rib America Fest, have established them as the most traveled and successful band in the market. You won’t want to miss this one!

Continuing on with Saturday (4/7), we’ll be making a stop by the Pikes Peak Center, where they’ll be presenting the Colorado Springs Philharmonic – Ravel: La Valse! La valsepoème chorégraphique pour orchestre (a choreographic poem for orchestra), is a work written by Maurice Ravel between February 1919 and 1920; it was first performed on 12 December 1920 in Paris. It was conceived as a ballet but is now more often heard as a concert work. In his tribute to Ravel after the composer's death in 1937, Paul Landormy described the work as follows:
“...the most unexpected of the compositions of Ravel, revealing to us heretofore unexpected depths of Romanticism, power, vigor, and rapture in this musician whose expression is usually limited to the manifestations of an essentially classical genius.”

And wrapping up our week with Sunday (4/8), we’ll be heading out to the FanDraught Sports Brewery for the first annual FanDraught Baseball BrewFest! Celebrate Rockies home opener weekend at the first annual Baseball Brewfest. An unlimited taster party at FanDraught, with nine independent, Colorado breweries. In nine baseball positions. Make your way around the infield, stop to say hi to the pitcher and catcher, and head to the outfield. They'll all have beer for you!! The Rockies game will be on all televisions and projectors, with audio. First pitch is 1:15pm. What a great way to watch a game and enjoy incredible Colorado beer from nine of your favorite breweries!
