This Week in Colorado Springs (3/13 - 3/18)

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - March 13, 2018

Good morning Colorado Springs, and welcome once again to this week’s edition of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! With Daylight Savings Time now in effect we’ll be seeing more sunshine in the afternoons, and with highs in the 50s and 60s all the way through next week, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy it!
Kicking off our week with Tuesday (3/13), we’ll be heading out to the Pikes Peak Center for their presentation of A Chorus Line, the musical! A Chorus Line is a stunning musical-vérité about a chorus audition for a Broadway musical which celebrates those dedicated singer/dancers who make up the ensemble of a Broadway musical, moving them up front and center stage to tell their special tales of love and passion. A Chorus Line features the ground-breaking Tony Award-winning direction and choreography of Michael Bennett. It was the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize and 9 Tony awards including Best Musical.
This Wednesday (3/14) we’ll have a fun pre-Saint Patrick’s Day at Front Range BBQ, where they’ll be hosting Out of Nowhere! Get your St Paddy's Day celebration started off right! Join them for a 'pre-party' with specials on Irish Whiskey as well as beer from Renegade Brewing Company - their brewery of the month! Out of Nowhere plays bluegrass and acoustic music. They take traditional (and not so traditional) tunes and make them their own. Toss in their duet harmony twists plus the fun they have together, and you've got a show!
As for this Thursday (3/15), we’ve got a very special treat coming to town! We’ll be making our way out to the brand-new Ent Center for the Arts for their presentation of Sarah Chang: Viva Piazzolla! Recognized as one of the foremost violinists of our time, Sarah Chang has performed with the most esteemed orchestras, conductors, and accompanists in an international career spanning more than two decades. Since her debut with the New York Philharmonic at the age of eight, Chang has continued to impress audiences with her technical virtuosity and refined emotional depth. In this special program, Chang celebrates Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla’s response, The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.
And getting our weekend underway with Friday (3/16), we’ll be making our way over to the Stargazers Theatre for their Spring Rockfest with Levi Rifkin and Vinyl Lust! Levi Maez has performed all around Colorado for 20 years. Levi is a dynamic vocalist and guitarist who always puts on a great show! Rifkin is a pianist and keyboardist who describes his music as “evolving classical,” mixing elements of classical, jazz, rock, and alternative music styles combining interwoven melodies with rhythmic intensity. Together, Levi & Rifkin and the Groove Band play classic rock that will get you up and dancing! Vinyl Lust plays all the good time classic rock that you love. Vinyl Lust plays all the good time classic rock that they grew up with. You’ll hear the music of The Beatles, Genesis, The Cars, Doobie Brothers, and Led Zeppelin, just to name a few!
Continuing on with Saturday (3/17, St. Patrick’s Day!), we’ll be heading out to Downtown Colorado Springs for the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade! The first annual Colorado Springs St Patrick’s Day Parade was held 34 years ago in Old Colorado City. After outgrowing the West Side they moved their festivities to the center of the city. Today they are the biggest and best start to events in the heart of Colorado Springs’ Downtown, every year! Join thousands of runners, hundreds of cyclists, dozens of dancing groups, Celtic bands, marching bands, schools, charities, businesses, and more for this IRISH DOWNTOWN CELEBRATION!
And wrapping up our week with Sunday (3/18), we’ll be stopping by the Broadmoor World Arena to see The Original Harlem Globetrotters!
