This Week in Colorado Springs (1/9 - 1/14)

Where's the Snow?

By Tony Fleming-Brum - January 9, 2018

Good morning Colorado Springs, and welcome once again to this week’s edition of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! We should be seeing relatively mild weather this week, with Wednesday’s rain being the exception. Every other day this week we’re forecast to have clear, sunny skies and temperatures in the 40s-50s! Take solace in the warm weather, as the majority of the country is in the midst of a “brutal deep freeze” according to the weather channel!

Kicking off our week with Tuesday (1/9), we’ll be heading up to the Cave of the Winds Mountain Park! There aren’t many events going on around town this Tuesday, so we figured it would be a great chance to head up to the Cave of the Winds and have some fun! With three amazing cave tours, daring attractions, family-friendly and kid-friendly activities atop breathtaking Williams Canyon, Cave of the Winds Mountain Park is the perfect home for adventure! And with clear skies, and highs in the 50s, it’ll be a great day to be outside!

As for this Wednesday (1/10), we’ll be heading down to the Pueblo Memorial Hall where they’ll be hosting Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella! CINDERELLA is the Tony Award®-winning musical from the creators of South Pacific and The Sound of Music that’s delighting audiences with its surprisingly contemporary take on the classic tale. This lush production features an incredible orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all the moments you love—the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and more—plus some surprising new twists! Be transported back to your childhood as you rediscover some of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago” in this hilarious and romantic experience for anyone who’s ever had a dream.

And rolling right along into Thursday (1/11), we’ll be making our way to the Stargazers Theatre where they’ll be hosting the PPBC with Cass Clayton & The Hogback Blues Band! The Hogback Blues Band is a five-piece blues band specializing in traditional blues sound and style. Songs by legends of the blues such as Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Magic Sam, Little Walter and Albert King make up a large part of their song list, but they also play some R&B and soul tunes for variety and fun. You won’t want to miss this show!

And kicking off our weekend with Friday (1/12), we’ll be heading out to the Space Foundation Discovery Center for their Art & Ales event! Join them in viewing different forms of space art, and enjoy a good ale while you’re at it! Create your own one-of-a-kind space art masterpieces throughout the evening. Ages 21 and over. Ticket price includes admission, one (1) drink voucher and space art crafts. Food truck and cash bar will be available on site as well. Come on out and enjoy some Space After Dark!

As for this Saturday (1/13), we’ll be stopping by the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center for their showing of Dogfight: A Staged Concert! The hauntingly beautiful musical, Dogfight, by Pasek and Paul (Oscar winners for La La Land, composers of the Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen) and Peter Duchan, was praised by countless critics and nominated for numerous awards, winning the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical. Based on the 1991 Warner Bros. film, this romantic and heartbreaking theatrical journey is studded with impressive songs and a genuine and charming soul. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the FAC’s Youth Repertory Program. With your generous support, they will be able to continue providing the Pikes Peak region with the most comprehensive, focused and professional theatrical training for young thespians!

And wrapping up our weekend with Sunday (1/14), we’ll be heading out to the Broadmoor World Arena’s Ice Hall for their Open to the Public skate! What better way to bring your weekend to a close than getting out and stretching your legs a bit? We haven’t gotten much in the way of winter weather yet this season, but it’s always Winter in the Broadmoor Ice Hall! With $4 admission and $3 skate rental, you’d be doing yourself a disservice in not going to check it out!

And as always, don't forget about Front Range Shuttle! From cozy SUV's to 25 passenger buses, we have all your airport transportation needs covered!
