This Week in Colorado Springs (12/12 - 12/17)

Happy Hanukkah!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - December 12, 2017

Good Morning Colorado Springs, and welcome once again to this week’s edition of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! With the first official day of Winter fast approaching, our temperatures will continue to drop here in the Springs. This week we’re looking at highs between the 40s and 50s, lows below freezing every day, and a slight chance of evening snow showers on Wednesday and Saturday! You’ll definitely want to bundle up if you’ve got plans in the evening, but during the day we’ll still be seeing plenty of sunshine!
Kicking off our week with Tuesday (12/12), we’ll be heading over to the Simpich Showcase Theatre for their presentation of The Puppet Maker: A Story of Christmas! Step inside the workshop of a village woodcarver as he painstakingly prepares a marionette Nativity scene for a local Christmas music festival. On this eventful Christmas Eve night before the pageant, as he applies the finishing touches to his figures, a Christmas story unfolds that is both timeless and unexpected. This is a limited engagement, so take advantage of the opportunity while you can!
And moving right along into Wednesday (12/13), we’ll be stopping by Sunshine Studios Live for their presentation of CrazyTown! When the new millennium arrived the music industry was in the midst of a new music revolution. The free delivery via shared files online created a new “outlaw” brand, that would prove instrumental in the way music would be not just delivered but created. One of the breakout bands to not just embrace but help shift the tectonic plates of the music industry was Crazy Town. As one of the first hybrid brands, they brought a new ball into the game. Equal parts urban and suburban, Chevrolet and Bentley, they rolled onto the music scene with a slow build that erupted when a “Butterfly” entered the room.
As for this Thursday (12/14), we’ll be heading on up to the Stargazers Theatre for the 3rd Annual Arts & Culture Ability Expo! Join the Therapeutic Recreation Program for your annual Arts and Culture Ability Expo in which they showcase the talents and amazing abilities of participants who are engaged in programs within the core area of Arts and Culture! The evening will begin with a gallery showing featuring photos from their Downtown and Photography in the Park workshops, capturing the views of Colorado Springs. A performance will follow featuring the TRP Drums Alive! Group as well as the Mixed Emotions Dance Troupe. Mark your calendars now as you will not want to miss this amazing event!
And kicking off our weekend with Friday (12/15), we’ll be heading over to the Glen Eyrie Castle for their Madrigal Banquet! No other holiday event compares to Glen Eyrie’s Madrigal Banquet! Set in the grandeur of The Great Hall of The Castle, our 16th century-style banquet is sure to inspire and prepare your heart for this Christmas season. Filled with festive entertainment by talented musicians and performers, this classic Colorado tradition is guaranteed to create unforgettable Christmas memories! Our award-winning Culinary Team has hand-crafted the evening’s lavish four-course meal with savory new flavors that pair perfectly with your sensational experience. Be sure to arrive on time for valet parking and hors d’oeuvres prior to the show!
This Saturday (12/16) will be a very fun event at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, they’ll be having a Silent Disco Snow Ball! Join them for a silent disco dance party underneath Buck Walsky’s Beach Front, an interactive art installation featuring fiber optics and LED lights. Grab a pair of wireless headphones (provided), tune in to the channel of your choice, and dance to your own beat under this stunning work of art! Cash bar and small plates will be available.
And bringing our weekend to a close with Sunday (12/17), we’ll be heading up to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for their Electric Safari event! There’s only one place in Colorado Springs that you can see over 85 one-of-a-kind light sculptures and 50 acres of lights and wild animals – Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's Electric Safari! This year’s event will celebrate 27 years of holiday cheer and Santa Claus will be taking holiday wishes each night through December 23. Come celebrate the holiday season with twinkling lights, animal experiences and family fun!
