This Week in Colorado Springs (11/7 - 11/12)

Happy Veteran's Day!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - November 7, 2017

Good morning Colorado Springs, and welcome once again to this week’s edition of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! Temperatures are continuing to drop as we make our transition from Fall into Winter, but we shouldn’t be seeing a large amount of snow just yet. With lows around 30 and highs varying between 49 and 60 all week, this may be our last week of summer-esque weather, let’s make sure we enjoy it!

Kicking off our week with Tuesday (11/7), we’ll be heading over to the Pikes Peak Center for their presentation of Motown, The Musical! MOTOWN THE MUSICAL is the story of Berry Gordy’s journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and many more. Motown shattered barriers, shaped our lives and made us all move to the same beat. Featuring classic songs such as “My Girl” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” experience the story behind the music in the record-breaking smash hit MOTOWN THE MUSICAL!

Heading in to Wednesday (11/8), we’ll be making our way up to the UCCS Campus at Berger Hall where they’ll be presenting Combat to Comedy! Comedian/Actor Vincent Oshana is coming to town for a night filled with laughs! After high school, Oshana joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, where he received awards for his good service. After his military service, Oshana moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in stand-up comedy, and is best known for his HBO Stand-Up Comedy Set on Russell Simmons's Def Comedy Jam and various roles on Showtime channel's television series The Underground.

Rolling along into Thursday (11/9), we’ll be stopping by the Millibo Art Theatre for their presentation of The Accidental Death of an Anarchist! Playwright Dario Fo seamlessly combines social commentary and dark comedy as he examines the death of a protestor in police custody and the subsequent cover up by those in power. Described as "....a heady blend of vaudeville and politics that suggests the Brothers Marx, Karl and Groucho have been working in unison." by The Guardian, this will be a fun one!

And kicking off our weekend with Friday (11/10), we’ll be making our way over to the Broadmoor World Arena for the Colorado College Tigers hockey game! For the first time in 5 years, the Colorado College Tigers hold the #1 spot in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, and will look to hold onto their first place spot this weekend against Omaha! Come on out and support our team!

As for this Saturday (11/11, Veteran’s Day!), we’ll be heading up to the Stargazers Theatre for their presentation of The Long Run: Alter-Eagles! The Long Run, 'Colorado's Tribute to The Eagles', come to Colorado Springs to play their 'Alter-Eagles' show, where they do NOT do their regular Eagles show, but they perform songs from some of their favorite, most influential artists, such as Steely Dan, John Mayer, Little River Band, Orleans, Ambrosia, Doobie Bros, Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Browne- among many others. These are exclusive shows that The Long Run only play once or twice a year, at selected, hand-picked venues. So, be sure to get your tickets for a trip down memory lane, and songs that are the 'soundtrack to our lives'.

And wrapping up our week with Sunday (11/12), we’ll be head down to Pueblo, CO to Pueblo Memorial Hall, where the Russian Ballet will be performing Swan Lake! The Russian Grand Ballet was founded and incorporated by graduates from the Great Russian choreographic schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev. It has established a reputation for talent and versatility by touring the world with both full-length traditional ballets and shorter `divertissements.' Its Ballet Master, Honored Artist of Russia, Vladimir Troshchenko, is highly dedicated to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet. Swan Lake is the story of Odette, a beautiful princess, who falls under the spell of an evil sorcerer. Only Prince Siegfried's devotion can save her. Swan Lake combines pure romanticism and tragedy, in a magical tale of love and deception. This full - length production features the rarely performed Waltz of the Black Swans. You won’t want to miss this one!
