Good Morning Colorado Springs, and welcome once again to this week’s edition of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! Temperatures are starting to cool off a bit as we head in to the Fall months, but we’ll still have a nice week of sunshine and 80 degree weather this week. You’ll want to get out and enjoy this while you can!
Kicking off our week with Tuesday (9/12), you’ll want to make your way over to the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center
for their showing of The Art of Storytelling
, featuring selections from the FAC’s Native American and Spanish Colonials collections. This exhibition explores the many ways that objects tell stories. Stories explored through the objects include – morals, lives of the saints, origins, commodification and trade, collecting practices, cultural contact, disruption and destruction. This will be an interactive exhibition, wherein Colorado College faculty, students, community members, artists and visitors are invited to share additional stories about or inspired by the objects.
And that brings us to Wednesday (9/13) for an exciting night of trivia, along with some good eats! We’ll be heading over to the Gold Camp Brewing Company
for their weekly Live Trivia Game: Triviality
! Triviality is the most fun, exciting live trivia game around! Bring your team and get ready for some fun! Lil Howard's BBQ will be serving delicious pulled pork, hot links, and more! Gold Camp has an amazing array of locally brewed beers on tap. The top 3 finishers get prizes with 1st place being a gift certificate AND a team flag in the coveted Trivia Trophy!
As for this Thursday (9/14), we’ll be heading up to the Stargazers Theatre
for what should be a fantastic Cajun Blues show featuring Tab Benoit
! Growing up in Louisiana, Benoit assembled his own band – a stripped down bass-and-drums unit propelled by his solid guitar skills and leathery, Cajun-spiced vocal attack. An environmental activist as well as a stellar blues musician, Benoit has made the preservation of the endangered delta wetlands his personal crusade. He serves as president of Voice of the Wetlands, an environmental organization he co-founded in 2003. Get your tickets now as this event always sells out!
This Friday (9/15) we’ve got a special event in town: The Colorado Pro Rodeo Finals
! The Mile High Rodeo Association is proud to host the 2017 Colorado Pro Rodeo Finals September 15-17, 2017 at the Norris-Penrose Event Center. The CPRA Finals is the apex of the summer rodeo series that encompasses 46 rodeos over 4 months, May through September. Friday’s theme for the night will be Donate Life Colorado – Be Someone’s Hero, say “Yes”!
And heading into our weekend on Saturday (9/16), we’ll be stopping by Pikes Peak Center
for their presentation of Lise de la Salle performing Chopin
! In just a few years, through her international concert appearances and her award-winning Naïve recordings, 28 year-old Lise de la Salle has established a reputation as one of today’s most exciting young artists, and as a musician of uncommon sensibility and maturity. Her playing inspired a Washington Post critic to write, “For much of the concert, the audience had to remember to breathe…the exhilaration didn’t let up for a second until her hands came off the keyboard.” This is a show you definitely won’t want to miss!
Bringing our week to a close with Sunday (9/17), we’ll be heading up to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
for one of their Backyard Exploration
events, this week’s subject: Backyard Chickens! Join the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo keeper as your guide for how to safely live with, manage, learn from and enjoy the wildlife all around you. Are you thinking about starting a backyard chicken coop? Come to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and learn all about chicken breeds, coops, care, and so much more!
