This Week in Colorado Springs (7/24 - 7/30)

More Rainy Days Ahead!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - July 24, 2017

We’re back once again with the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog, and we hope you all had a great weekend! This week we’re looking at thunderstorms and rain just about every day, but with highs still reaching the low 80s, we’ll have plenty to do around town! Also, did you know that July 24th is Amelia Earhart day?

We’ll be starting off our week with Monday (7/24), and being one of the only days without rain in the forecast, we’ll definitely be enjoying the weather outdoors! We’ll be heading over to Monument Valley Park this Monday evening for their presentation of the Musical Monday Concert from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., and this week they’ll have Starburn playing live on the lawn! Bring a blanket, lawn chair, picnic, & friends to the annual Monument Valley Park Musical Mondays concert series on the lawn west of the CS Fine Arts Center!

As for Tuesday (7/25), we’re looking at what should be the hottest day of the week, and a very low chance of rain in the afternoon. With that in mind, we’ll be heading over to the Copperfalls Candle Lit Yoga class at the Aveda Spa and Salon! Head over and experience the serenity and tranquility that only Copperfalls Candle Lit Spa Yoga can give you. Unwind from your day as you practice a calming yoga set surrounded by peaceful candle light. It’s the perfect way to challenge your practice and find some serenity in the middle of the week!

And that brings us to Wednesday (7/26), the first day of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for this week. That’s alright, though, as we’ll be heading over to the Gold Camp Brewing Company for their weekly Live Trivia Game: Triviality! Triviality is the most fun, exciting live trivia game around! Bring your team and get ready for some fun! Lil Howard's BBQ will be serving delicious pulled pork, hot links, and more! Gold Camp has an amazing array of locally brewed beers on tap. The top 3 finishers get prizes with 1st place being a gift certificate AND a team flag in the coveted Trivia Trophy!

Thursday (7/27) will be another day of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the forecast, so we’ll be heading over to Jives Coffee Lounge for their bi-weekly Open Mic Night! Got a gift? Come on down and share it with the community here in town! Just sign up with the barista and strut your stuff for your 15 minutes of Fame! They have guitars, mics, a sick stage and great folks just dying to hear you!

At this point in the week I’m sure everyone will be tired of the storms and wet weather, but at least there’s still fun to be had! On Friday (7/28) we’ll be heading over to Stargazers Theatre for their Summer Fun Free Concert Series, featuring a wide range of incredible talent throughout the Pikes Peak Region! This week’s concert will be featuring Broadcast with Justus League, a soulful blues roots rock band formed in New York City and developed in Asheville, North Carolina, Produced by multi Grammy winner Jim Scott! Fronted by the explosive vocals of Caitlin Krisko, the bands live shows bring back the spirit of high energy performances originally made famous by 1970s classic rock bands!

You’re in luck if you’re here in town on Saturday (7/29), as we’ve got a very special event on the books: The African Drumming & Dance Festival and Fashion Extravaganza! This energizing community cultural event will feature Traditional and Contemporary West African Drummers and Dancers, Story Tellers, Spoken Word, African Marketplace, and an exciting African Centered Fashion Show. Proceeds will fund the 28th Annual Colorado Springs Citywide Kwanzaa Celebration and 2017 community cultural educational activities.

Wrapping up our week with Sunday (7/30), we’ll be heading over to the Broadmoor World Arena Ice Hall for their afternoon Open Skating! It’ll be a great way to stretch those legs after so many days of rain in the forecast, and a great way to bring a close to your weekend! Head over and show off your skills, or learn to skate for the very first time on one of the finest ice skating rinks in the world!

And as always, don't forget about Front Range Shuttle! From cozy SUV's to 25 passenger buses, we have all your airport transportation needs covered!
