Good news from Front Range Shuttle; our blog will now be updated once per week! All the same great event ideas, but now you can find them all in one post!
Let’s start off this week’s blog with weather, shall we? It’s looking like we’re in for a chilly, over-cast Friday, but after that the weekend is forecast to warm up considerably. Saturday through Monday should bring clear skies and highs in the 40s, and then back to cold and snowy weather from Tuesday to Thursday of next week.
Starting off our week with Friday evening (12/2), you’re in for a real comedic treat. Back by popular demand, join the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center
for their First Friday Cocktail Party and Art Show
, followed immediately by Happy Hour Stand-Up! This Friday the Center will be presenting Erik Knowles, 1st
place winner of The World Series of Comedy in 2016!
Saturday morning (12/3) we start the day early, but with good reason. Jump on the UCCS Ski Bus
and head up to Monarch Ski Area
for the day! After the slopes, they head down to the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs
for a nice soak before returning to UCCS. For just $75 they provide transportation, lift ticket, and hot springs pass. Gear rental and lessons are also available.
If skiing isn’t your cup of tea, maybe you’d be interested in a popular Colorado Springs tradition that is undergoing big changes this year, as the Holiday Chocolate Festival
grows to two days and moves to a new home! The Mortgage Solutions Financial Expo Center, with a 55,000-ft show floor, will house the event Friday and Saturday, December 2-3. Attendees can now browse more than 90 booths and sample and buy more chocolate than ever, in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. More than 100,000 samples are expected to be offered, from dozens of the nation's best chocolatiers. The annual event draws thousands of chocolate lovers from around the region, all gathering for a day to sample, sip and shop!
Sunday (12/4) is forecast to be our sunniest day of the weekend, with clear skies and highs in the high 40s, so why not head over to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
for their Walking in a Winter Wild-Land tour
? Put on your hats and mittens and join them with your friends or family on this 2-hour tour to learn more about what Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s animal residents do in the winter! You might be surprised by how many animals find this season to be as delightful, enriching, and special as we do!
Monday (12/5) brings us once again to the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, not just for the day, but a month of holiday exhibits that they have dubbed Winter Lights
! A month of festive events sure to brighten the spirits of the young, the old and everyone in-between. From a nostalgic How the Grinch Stole Christmas
exhibition in the galleries, to the side-splitting stage production of Shrek: The Musical
, seasonal art classes, a gallery of artist decorated trees, and other special Winter Lights events, they’ve loaded the calendar with opportunities for you to marvel, laugh, unwind and build memories this holiday season.
Tuesday (12/6) You are cordially invited to the Pikes Peak Center by Colorado Springs Conservatory
for their Holiday White Party
! With free performances by Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl & The Night Visitors
, with Maestro Thomas Wilson and The Chamber Orchestra of the Strings, as well as Bending Towards the Light
, a Jazz Nativity by Anne Philips. There is also an optional VIP reception for the event, and ticket sales will go towards the Colorado Springs Conservatory’s scholarship program for arts education! Come dressed in your winter whites and enjoy the evening for a good cause!
Wednesday (12/7) should be a fun night at Front Range BBQ
, as they’ll be hosting the Henhouse Prowlers
. With Southern style BBQ & home cooked meals, local / microbrews on tap, and an outdoor heated patio, you’re certainly in for a good meal. Eleven years in the making, Chicago’s Henhouse Prowlers have built a reputation for hard work and non-stop touring, playing music inspired by the roots of bluegrass while branching out into a sound uniquely their own. You’re surely in for a treat if you have time to stop by and take in this show!
Thursday (12/8) we’ll wrap up our week with a nice, relaxing evening of Wine and Tapas
at Peak Place Coffeehouse
. They’ll be exploring the delights of Spanish wines from different regions in Spain, all accompanied by tapas created by acclaimed chef Pete Moreno from Mackenzie’s Chophouse. Join wine expert Melissa Travins as she walks guests through each wine, and you’ll enjoy each course as you’re serenaded by a local musician. They look forward to sharing this intimate, fun, and memorable evening with you!
