Downtown Colorado Springs Hotel Change

By Tony Fleming-Brum - March 10, 2017

This is an urgent update on Front Range Shuttle's downtown Colorado Springs pick-up/drop-off location, please take note!

As of 3/7/2017, the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center located at 314 W. Bijou St. will no longer be allowing ANY shuttle companies to pick up or drop off on their property.

With this in mind, Front Range Shuttle’s new downtown Colorado Springs pick-up/drop-off location will be streetside at the 1st Bank Building (2 North Cascade Avenue, next to Antlers Hotel), just across I-25  from the Clarion.

We here at Front Range Shuttle would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience that this change may cause to your travel plans, and to assure you that we will continue to provide the top-notch shuttle service that you are accustomed to!

This Week in Colorado Springs (3/9 - 3/15)

Happy St. Patty's Day Weekend!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - March 9, 2017

Hello again to all our loyal readers of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog, we’ve got a good one for you this week! With Spring weather rolling in here in Colorado Springs, we should be seeing mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s through the weekend and into next week; beautiful weather for going out and exploring our wonderful state!
Starting off our week with Thursday (3/9), we’ll head over to Jives Coffee Lounge for a relaxing night of local music talent. Every Thursday the Jives Coffee Lounge hosts the Jives2 Open Mic night, a chance for anyone with an itch for their 15 minutes of fame to strut their stuff! They have guitars, mics, a great stage, and great folks just dying to hear you!
This Friday (3/10) takes us up to Manitou Springs for a special night of classic rock music at the Townhouse Lounge, where they’ll be hosting Starburn! Starburn creates the hey-man/peace/love/grooviness vibe that defined an era of rock & roll with songs from the late '60s and early '70s. Generations of music lovers will be singing along to favorites by The Grateful Dead, Vanilla Fudge, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Pink Floyd, Santana, Cream, and more!
After two nights of home-grown, local musical talent, we’ll be swinging by the Pikes Peak Center for a show of a bit more refined music on Saturday (3/11). This week they will be presenting the Colorado Springs Philharmonic playing Dvořák’s New World Symphony! Among the most popular symphonic works of all time, Dvorak's 9th symphony is richly layered with the musical traditions of America. Dvorak was especially adept at turning folk melodies into grand classical themes, and his stirring treatments of African-American spirituals and Native American motifs were instantly recognized as a national treasure. This will be a show you won’t want to miss!
Following an amazing night of classical symphony music, Sunday afternoon (3/12) will take us to the Lone Tree Arts Center for their presentation of Passport to Culture: Denver Taiko! Founded in 1976, Denver Taiko comprises third, fourth and fifth generation Japanese Americans honoring their cultural heritage through the exhilarating performance art of Taiko. A dynamic and propulsive event, this performance is a combination of structured rhythms and improvisational solos that roll together like thunder to stir your soul. Passport to Culture is a program specifically designed for children and families to experience arts and culture outside the classroom and inside a world of imagination through performances that foster the growth of visual and performing arts, science, and cultural understanding in our community.
Monday (3/13) we’ll wind down a little from our exciting weekend of shows with a stop by the Western Museum of Mining & Industry, where they’ll be opening their next exhibit, “Minerals You Use Every Day from the National Forests”! This exhibit consists of an interactive component from the National Museum of Forest Service History and a selection of minerals from WMMI’s collection. Whether we realize it or not, modern civilization is heavily dependent on minerals for everything from computers and electricity to toothpaste and makeup. This exhibit highlights this importance and demonstrates how America’s national forests help supply the country’s mineral needs.
Tuesday (3/14) will be an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in hunting or the outdoors at Stargazers Theatre, as they’ll be hosting The Hunting Film Tour! The Hunting Film Tour is a traveling film festival that allows outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy exciting, story-driven content from hunting adventures around the globe, all of which will be shown on the big screen in crisp high definition. The Hunting Film Tour provides a home for unique films and filmmakers that capture the stories, landscapes, and pursuits that make hunting a generational passion.
Wrapping up this week’s event’s with Wednesday (3/15), we’ll head over to a Colorado Springs staple, Front Range BBQ! This week they’ll be celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day in style, with Bruce Hayes going on stage at 7:30pm! Bruce Hayes plays Rhythm & Celtgrass music, a fusion of musical styles that combines acoustic and electric instrumentation with elements of Rock, Bluegrass, Celtic, and R&B music. Collaborating with The String Cheese Incident and Acoustic Junction, Hayes helped define the acoustic jam band sound. He continues this tradition performing original songs and arrangements on Mandolin, Guitar, Dobro, foot board and his latest creation, the Stratobassto!

Happy Friday from Front Range Shuttle!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - February 24, 2017

Good afternoon Colorado Springs, and welcome to another installment of the Front Range Shuttle weekly events blog! We had a few chilly, snowy days to wrap up this week, but we should be looking at mostly clear skies through next Thursday, with temperatures averaging in the 40s. You’ll want to bundle up if you’re not used to the cold, but with the sun shining all week long it should be a great time to visit the area!
Starting off our week with Friday evening (2/24), we’ll head on over to the Pikes Peak Center for the rarest of rare opportunities: A one-night-only concert with the world’s most celebrated cellist, 18-time Grammy Winner, and Presidential Medal of Freedom holder, Yo-Yo Ma! Yo-Yo Ma’s multi-faceted career is testament to his continual search for new ways to communicate with audiences, and to his personal desire for artistic growth and renewal. Whether performing new or familiar works from the cello repertoire, coming together with colleagues for chamber music or exploring cultures and musical forms outside the Western classical tradition, Mr. Ma strives to find connections that stimulate the imagination. He’ll be performing with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, so this will definitely be a show to catch if you’re here in town this week!
After a fantastic evening of classical music on the 24th, Saturday (2/25) will provide our readers a chance to get out and shake their tails a bit at the Stargazers Theatre! A newly assembled group of Colorado Spring's favorite top level artists and performers team up in Collective Groove, to bring you the most fun live music dance party, ever. If you have not had the chance to try out Stargazers new dance floor, this would be a great opportunity! Playing high energy covers from the likes of Earth, Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, Chicago, Prince, and Steely Dan, this night of live music is sure to get you up and dancing with Collective Groove!
Sunday afternoon (2/26) will give us a nice chance to relax and unwind before we head back into our work week, as the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center will be presenting Junie B. Jones: The Musical! A delightful adaptation of the best-selling children’s book series brought to life in a genuinely comical and not strictly-for-kids musical. It’s Junie B.’s first day of first grade and a lot of things have changed for her. Featuring a tremendously loveable character and fun-filled songs, Junie B. Jones will capture your heart just as the books captivated an entire generation of students!
With Monday (2/27) forecast to be the warmest, sunniest day of the week (fingers crossed!), why not take a trip over to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo while everyone is at work! Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s 146 picturesque acres are home to over 750 animals of every variety. Mirroring their natural habitats in the wild, the animals’ Zoo homes will transport you to wild places around the globe. With its distinctive mountainside setting at an elevation of 6,714— and over 170 species of wild animals, engaging exhibits and irresistible attractions, at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo the wonders of the wild are just a short trip away!
Tuesday (2/28) will take us over to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs for their Café Scientifique! Dubbed “The Most Important Research Ever Ignored”, Presented by Dave Gardner, filmmaker / sustainability activist / president of ‘GrowthBusters’, this will be a great night to relax and take in a bit of cultured discussion here in Colorado Springs!
Wednesday evening (3/1) will be a nice chance for adults visiting the Springs to unwind at Southside Johnny’s where they will be hosting their weekly This is a Clue trivia night! Play in teams of up to six, or by yourself if you want a real challenge. Winning teams get bar cash, street prizes, and of course, street cred among fellow trivia maniacs!
And wrapping up our week with Thursday (3/2) at The Gold Room here in Colorado Springs. For this special evening, Gipsy Moon will be joined by the critically acclaimed Indie Americana band Mipso from Chapel HIll, North Carolina. Dubbed “traditionalist renegades,” Mipso’s music is influenced by the contradiction of their progressive home and the surrounding rural southern landscapes.

This Week in Colorado Springs (2/17 - 2/23)

Happy President's Day!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - February 16, 2017

Good afternoon Colorado Springs (and guests), and welcome to this week’s installment of the Front Range Shuttle event blog! We’ve had some beautiful, sunny days here over the weekend, and that warm weather should hold up all the way through next Thursday. Be prepared for a cold-snap on Thursday, though, as we’re looking at a 20 degree drop in temperature in just one day!

To start off our week here in Colorado Springs with Friday’s (2/17) activities, we’ll stop by Stargazer’s Theatre once again for another exciting night of music and dancing with Susan Rissman and Blazz! Susan Rissman has been one of the principal female vocalists in Colorado Springs for more than 20 years. She’s toured the country as primary vocalist for “Tiny Barge and the Big Chill” numerous times and has played virtually every major (and minor) venue on the Colorado Springs music scene. Blazz is a tasty blend of Kansas City style blues and swinging jazz. Comprised of Colorado Springs standouts Rob Landreth (guitar and vocals), John Wise (bass and vocals), Jana Lee Ross (keys and vocals), and Teddy Nazario (drums and percussion), this red-hot band promises to deliver high energy music that will have you up on your feet dancing the night away!

After an evening of music, why not relax on Saturday afternoon (2/18) with the good folks up at the Manitou Cliff Dwellings Museum? This Saturday afternoon they will be visited by Spirit, one of the many wolves from Colorado Wolf Adventures! Help support them with a donation and take some pictures. You’re guaranteed to have a "howling" good time, and for a good cause to boot!

This Sunday (2/19) brings us once again to Front Range BBQ, a signature Colorado Springs restaurant that never fails to please. This week they’ll be hosting AJ Gaither, One Man Band in honor of President’s Day weekend, and it’s sure to be a great time! With good food and good music, there’s no reason not to come down and help Front Range BBQ welcome back this Hill Billy Honky Tonk Blues musician from Kansas City!

Monday afternoon (2/20) we should be seeing nothing but sunny skies and warm weather, so why not stop in with the good people at the Commonwheel Artists Co-op for their showing of three artists’ unique takes on landscape painting: Colors of the Landscape. Kathy Hutton is working in pastels and charcoal to bring her surrealist inspired drawings to life. Jonathan Sulinski’s small-scale works were a way to work quickly in the limited amount of time he had to devote to his art after college. Each one starts with a photograph taken while hiking in the Colorado wilderness and focuses on details of the landscape. Julia Brochéy’s landscapes intertwine music, visual art, and dance, using instruments and instrument parts as her canvases on which to depict scenes inspired by cultures within this region and beyond. It’ll definitely be a showing worth seeing!

Tuesday evening (2/21) will be an interesting opportunity to see some new musical talent here in Colorado Springs, as the Gold Room will be hosting their monthly Songwriter Showcase! Each month they will select artists to participate in a Nashville style showcase. February 21st artists include Kelly Pippin, Jacob Christopher, Jon Tyler Dohm, Nikki Giron, Mark Edens, and Sargents Sargent. There will be a full bar and food available as well, so come on down and watch these up-and-coming artists strut their stuff!

Wednesday (2/22) we’ll swing by the Space Foundation Center for their Family Star Party event, a favorite for adult and child astronomy buffs alike! An evening of looking to the stars and discovering the wonders of the universe. This event creates a fun learning environment for the whole family and inspires the next generation of astronomy enthusiasts!  All outside activities are free to the public, and discounted admission is available for those wishing to explore the Discovery Center and Science On a Sphere® inside.

Thursday (2/23) we’ll begin to wind down our work-week and hopefully start to loosen up for the weekend at Peak 31, where they’ll be hosting an every-Thursday event: Party With The Band! Always original local bands showcased Thursday evenings, this week they’ll be hosting Riverbottom and Something Like Yesterday, two epic bands that are sure to get you in the weekend state of mind! The fun doesn’t stop with great live bands, either; from 8 – 10pm well drinks and domestic beers are included in your cover ($10)!
