Happy Arbor Day from Front Range Shuttle!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - April 28, 2017

Hello Colorado, and welcome to this weeks edition of the Front Range Shuttle local events blog! Our forecast for the next few days is looking pretty bleak, with rain and snow arriving Friday night, and sticking with us until Sunday morning. You never know, though, here in Colorado; we may end up seeing clear skies and sun as early as Saturday afternoon! Either way, plan your weekend accordingly, and make sure to book your Shuttle if you’re going to be travelling!

Since this Friday (4/28) is Arbor Day, why not take advantage of the afternoon of clear skies before our snowy weekend at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo? Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s 146 picturesque acres are home to over 750 animals of every variety. Mirroring their natural habitats in the wild, the animals’ Zoo homes will transport you to wild places around the globe. With its distinctive mountainside setting at an elevation of 6,714— and over 170 species of wild animals, engaging exhibits and irresistible attractions, at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo the wonders of the wild are just a short trip away!

Saturday (4/29) the snow is forecast to be coming down pretty thick, so we’ll be hunkering down at the Stargazers Event Center! This weekend they’ll be presenting one of the most popular shows of the year, The Long Run!  The Long Run, "Colorado's Tribute to the Eagles", is comprised of five of the busiest musicians on Colorado's Front Range. Laden with four and five part harmonies, The Long Run reproduce the Eagles' hits with an organic 70's sound, accurate lead guitarists, multi-instrumentalists, and a lead-singing drummer. The band plays Eagles' songs with haunting accuracy in which they faithfully and respectfully recreate.

After the passing of the snow, we should be seeing clear skies on Sunday (4/30), but temperatures will still be in the 30s and 40s for most of the day. With that in mind, why not take the opportunity to see one of the most popular Monster Truck shows in the World: Monster Jam! The Broadmoor World Arena will have shows all weekend long, so be sure to check it out! Monster Jam® is the most action-packed live event on four wheels where world-class drivers compete in front of capacity crowds in both monster truck racing and freestyle competitions. Celebrating 25 years of adrenaline-charged family entertainment, Monster Jam combines spontaneous entertainment with the ultimate off-road, motorsport competition.

Monday (5/1) we’ll be seeing the temperatures rise just a bit, but at least the wind and snow will have passed us! The next exciting event this week will be taking place at the Pikes Peak Center, an amazing venue for Daniel Tosh and special guests to perform! “Tosh.0” is currently in its ninth season and airs on Tuesday nights at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. Daniel Tosh will host and perform an evening of stand-up comedy featuring writers and comedians from his Comedy Central show “Tosh.0”. Get your tickets and enjoy a night of laughs!

Had enough of the Pikes Peak Center? I hope not! We’ll be heading right back there on Tuesday (5/2) for their showing of Stomp! STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews, and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments-matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps-to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms.

With half the week over with, and the weekend fast approaching, why not take the opportunity to unwind a bit this Wednesday evening (5/3)? And what better place to do it than the Gold Camp Brewing Company, where they’ll be having their weekly live trivia night, Triviality! Bring your team and get ready for some fun! Lil Howard's BBQ will be serving delicious pulled pork, hot links, and more! Gold Camp also has an amazing array of locally brewed beers on tap. The top 3 finishers in the trivia game get prizes, with 1st place being a gift certificate AND a team flag on the coveted Trivia Trophy!

We’ll wrap up this week’s events with a Colorado Springs staple: The Simpich Showcase Marionette Theatre! The most talented marionettist that this blogger has ever had the pleasure of seeing, this week will mark the beginning of their showings of The Firebird! Nothing is as it appears to be for young Prince Ivan as he ventures forth on a quest to capture the illusive and deadly Firebird. He is aided in his harrowing journey by a flying wolf, a hospitable owl and innkeeper mouse; riddles and tests are inexplicably solved; and an adventure unfolds that carries the wayward hero to the farthest reaches of fairy tale Russia.

And as always, don't forget about Front Range Shuttle! From cozy SUV's to 25 passenger buses, we have all your airport transportation needs covered!

This Week in Colorado Springs (4/21 - 4/27)

Happy Friday from Front Range Shuttle!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - April 21, 2017

Happy Friday Colorado Springs, and welcome to another installment of the Front Range Shuttle local events blog! Weather this week has been pretty pleasant, with just a bit of wind picking up in the afternoons, and dying down again by the evening. This weekend we’re looking at a bit more rain on Saturday, a small reprieve on Sunday and Monday, and then rain again all the way through next Friday! Bring your galoshes and umbrella if you’re planning on being out and about next week!

We’ll start our weekend off with Friday evening (4/21) at the Broadmoor World Arena with a comedy show you won’t soon forget! Superstar comedians Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy will reunite on the We've Been Thinking Tour to bring an unforgettable night of comedy to The Broadmoor World Arena. During this momentous event, both comedians will deliver a laughter-packed evening of all new material before they come together on stage for an uproarious encore you won’t want to miss!

Since we’ll be expecting rain this Saturday (4/22), why not swing by the Stargazers Event Center for one of the most creative musical groups this blogger has ever seen: Face – A Vocal Rock Band! Face is an internationally recognized vocal rock band based out of Boulder, Colorado, bringing a new edge and attitude to the human voice. Using just four singers (Ryan Driver, Stephen Ross, Forest Kelly, Cody Qualls) and a vocal drummer (Mark Megibow), Face creates a rock-music phenomenon that has to be seen to be believed. No instruments and no special effects -– just five guys!

What a weekend of shows! Comedy, Vocal Rock, and now Sunday (4/23) we’ll head on over to the Pikes Peak Center for the Colorado Springs Philharmonic’s presentation of Gustav Mahler’s sixth symphony! “Despite [Beethoven’s] Pastoral, there is only one Sixth.” Such was the impact of Gustav Mahler’s sixth symphony when it premiered in 1906, that it completely supplanted the great master of the previous century in the eyes of the classical music-listening public. Presented here without accompaniment or adornment, it promises to be the most thrilling installment yet in Josep Caballé-Domenech’s exploration of Mahler’s symphonies — in his words, a “mastodonic” performance.

Monday (4/24) of this week is forecast to be one of the only sunny days of the week, and with Spring flowers blooming, it will be a great day for a hike on one of the many trails here in our beautiful city. From here in Colorado Springs, to Manitou, and all the way up into the mountains, you’re sure to find some peace and quiet out in the woods. Garden of the Gods will likely be extremely crowded due to the short window we’ll have sun, so why not get creative and hike off the beaten path this weekend? You won’t regret it when you’ve got the whole trail to yourself!

With rain clouds rolling back in on Tuesday (4/25), we’ll be stopping by the Whistle Pig Brewing Company for PaintNite with Brewster! Come in to Whistle Pig Brewing on April 24 to enjoy some bites, some brews, and some brush strokes. You will be lead through painting a beautiful sunset landscape silhouetting a cherry blossom tree, all while sipping on your favorite brews. If beer isn't your thing, they will have some wines for your enjoyment as well as their house taps!

Wednesday (4/26) of this coming week should be another rainy day, and another good excuse to stay indoors where it’s dry! How about another trip to the Pikes Peak Center? This Wednesday they’ll be presenting Traviss Tritt! More than 27 years after Travis Tritt launched his music career, the Southern rock influenced artist continues to display strong sales activity, sell-out shows, and stay true and relevant to country music fans across the globe. The Southern-rock influenced artist continues to stay true and relevant to Country music fans across the globe. His conspicuous lack of a cowboy hat and musical aggressiveness set him apart. With more than 25 million in career album sales, two Grammys, three CMA Awards and a devoted fan base that filled venues coast-to-coast, he's proving to be unstoppable. Get your tickets today!

Wrapping up our week with Thursday (4/27), we’ll be heading over to the Stargazers Event Center once again to see the Jeffrey Alan Band, a free concert! Well versed in a wide variety of country music, the Jeffrey Alan Band plays everything from Top 40 Covers to the classics as far back as the 50s as well as classic rock. Jeffrey has been performing in night clubs throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas since he was 13 years old. He brings high-energy entertainment to his shows and loves to keep his audience hopping!

And as always, don't forget about Front Range Shuttle! From cozy SUV's to 25 passenger buses, we have all your airport transportation needs covered!

With highs in the 60s this week it’ll be a great chance to get out, stretch your legs, and see the Spring flowers start to bud here in our beautiful city!

We’ll start off our weekend with an exciting Friday evening (4/7) at the Stargazer’s Theatre, where they’ll be hosting Zoso: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience! For those who missed seeing Led Zeppelin live in the ‘70s, or are looking for a great chance to relive the "Hammer of the Gods" phenomenon, Stargazers presents an opportunity to experience what the St. Petersburg Times calls "the most exacting of the Zeppelin tribute bands in existence." The four members’ mastery of authentic vintage instruments, along with spot-on vocals, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards; their compelling stage persona and distinct Led Zeppelin sound; and astounding visual imagery all combine to recreate the music, magic, and mystery of a Zeppelin concert!

On Saturday (4/8) this week you’ll have a unique opportunity if you’re here in town, as the Broadmoor World Arena will be hosting the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships! Colorado Springs holds an important place in the history of figure skating, as the city has hosted many national and international competitions, and has been the training site for many World and Olympic champions. Colorado Springs is home of U.S. Figure Skating, the United States Olympic Committee as well as the site of the World Figure Skating Museum and Hall of Fame. Don’t miss this chance to see some of the world’s best athletes showing their talent!

After an exciting evening watching some of the best Ice Skaters in the world compete on Saturday evening, why not swing by the Broadmoor World Arena again on Sunday (4/9) and strut your stuff on the rink? Every Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Arena is open to the public to head out and have some fun on the ice, and after Saturday’s performance, maybe you’ll even be inspired to start training for the next ISU World Synchronized Skating Championship!

Calling all wildlife and nature lovers! This coming Monday (4/10), photographers from around the country are proud to partner with Plaza of the Rockies and 3 Peaks Photography to present “Wildlife of the Western States” to showcase animals from Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Arizona in hopes that it brings increased appreciation to the amazing wildlife that calls our region home! The exhibit will be on display throughout the month of April, so stop on by and see some fantastic photography of our beautiful area!

With the heavy Spring snow clearing up, and sunny skies forecast for the whole week, why not take a trip over to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on Tuesday (4/11) while everyone is at work!

With half the week over with, and the weekend fast approaching, why not take the opportunity to unwind a bit this Wednesday evening (4/12)? The top 3 finishers in the trivia game get prizes, with 1st place being a gift certificate AND a team flag on the coveted Trivia Trophy!

Thursday (4/13) we’ll wrap up our weekly events with a personal favorite presented by the Space Foundation Discovery Center: Make It To Mars! It’s a hands-on adventure as we build some of the devices that might be needed to explore Mars. You’ll be building spacesuits, rocket ships, solar sails and landers out of recycled and found materials to see if you can be a real Martian engineer. Make it to Mars is a maker-inspired exhibit designed to inspire future generations to think creatively about how we can continue to reach further in our exploration of the Universe, you won’t want to miss it!

This Week in Colorado Springs (3/17 - 3/23)

Happy St. Patty's Day!!

By Tony Fleming-Brum - March 17, 2017

Good afternoon, and welcome back to another installment of the Front Range Shuttle local events blog! Weather this week is looking to continue the warming trend that we saw last week, with lots of sun and highs in the 70s; perfect weather for exploring our beautiful city!

We’ll start off with St. Patty’s Day (Friday, 3/17) at the Stargazer’s Theatre! Don’t miss the biggest St. Patrick’s Day Party in town with The Verdict! The Verdict is a rock and roll band playing your favorite rock songs since 1989. 2017 marks their 28th year playing together! Members include: Darcy Martineau, Ken Bailey, Mike Louis, Scott Paugh, and Mike Selby. You will hear classic rock from the ‘70s and ‘80s that will have you dancing and singing along. Wear some green, bring your friends, and let’s do St. Patty’s Day right!

Next we’ll swing by the Pikes Peak Center on Satuday (3/18) for their presentation of Peer Gynt, performed by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic! “To thine own self be true!” Peer Gynt, the classic Norwegian tale of tricksters and trolls, is brought to rip-roaring life under the baton of Josep Caballé-Domenech. Fully narrated in a new translation, this is symphonic storytelling at its finest. The Colorado Springs Chorale provides lush vocal texture for the adventure, and Brahms’ elegiac Nänie rounds out a program devoted to the deeply moving combination of orchestra and choir. The program also features a special America the Beautiful World Premiere from local composer Ofer Ben-Amots.

Sunday evening (3/19) takes us once again to the Millibo Art Theatre, where they’ll be presenting Arthur Miller’s The Crucible! “Written as a thinly-veiled condemnation of the Communist “witch hunts” of his time, Arthur Miller perceived, brilliantly, that time and distance can pierce through the prism of history and light the way to a universal understanding: that hysteria, impulse, and fear can sweep up the innocent, and, in its aftermath leave a taint of despair and spiritual regret. And that, ultimately, it is the collective community which must bear the responsibility.” –Kelly Walters (Director)

Did you know that this coming Monday (3/20) is Extraterrestrial Abductions Day? With this in mind, Moon Joggers will be “hosting” a virtual 5k & 10k race for all you UFO and alien lovers out there! You choose the course you’d like to run, you time yourself, and then report your finishing time to them. March is MS Awareness month, and the Moon Joggers group will be donating a portion of each registration fee to The National MS Society. Along with your registration with the Moon Joggers group, you’ll also get a glow-in-the-dark Extraterrestrial Abductions Day 5K & 10K medal!

You’re in luck if you’ll be here in town on Tuesday evening (3/21), as The Black Sheep will be hosting an epic rock show that you won’t want to miss! 94.3 KILO presents: Escape The Fate with Bermuda Skies, Saints of Never After, and Enlighten the Masses. The Black Sheep has been voted “Best Live Music Venue” in Colorado Springs every year since they’ve been open, and with these 4 powerhouses lighting up the stage, you’re definitely in for a rocking good time!

With half the week over with, and the weekend fast approaching, why not take the opportunity to unwind a bit this Wednesday evening (3/22)? And what better place to do it than the Gold Camp Brewing Company, where they’ll be having their weekly live trivia night, Triviality! Bring your team and get ready for some fun! Lil Howard's BBQ will be serving delicious pulled pork, hot links, and more! Gold Camp also has an amazing array of locally brewed beers on tap. The top 3 finishers in the trivia game get prizes, with 1st place being a gift certificate AND a team flag on the coveted Trivia Trophy!

To finish off this week’s local events blog, we’ll swing by the Pikes Peak Center once again on Thursday (3/23) for an unforgettable evening of music with Judy Collins! Legendary singer-songwriter Judy Collins sings from the heart. Her strong clear voice is still beautiful and inspiring.  Judy is a 2017 Grammy nominee, two time winner and member of the Grammy Hall of Fame. Don’t miss this American music icon!
